TikTok Broadens Effect Creator Rewards Program and Adjusts Payout Structure
Expanding to More Regions and Lowering Payout Threshold
TikTok has announced the expansion of its Effect Creator Rewards program to an additional 33 regions, including various countries in Europe, the Middle East, South America, and Asia. This brings the total number of regions covered by the program to 53. The program, which was initially launched in May 2023, aims to reward creators for the effects they develop using TikTok’s AR development platform, Effect House.
Moreover, TikTok has lowered the eligibility requirement for effects to start earning rewards. Previously, an effect needed to be used in 200,000 qualified videos within 90 days to begin collecting rewards. Now, the threshold has been reduced to 100,000 qualified videos, making it easier for creators to start earning from their effects.
Updating the Payout Model
In addition to the expansion and lowered threshold, TikTok is also updating the program’s payout model. From now on, only effects used in qualified public videos will be eligible to collect rewards, as opposed to the previous model that included both public and private videos. While this change may result in fewer qualified videos for creators, TikTok is moving away from a flat fee model and adopting a RPM (revenue per mile) model to compensate for the difference.
Under the new model, creators will collect rewards based on the total number of qualified videos that used their effect within the first 90 days. Once an effect reaches 100,000 unique public video publishes, the creator will start collecting rewards and continue to do so for every additional qualified video until the end of the 90-day period or until they reach the maximum reward.
The change applies to all effects published from today onwards, while all effects published before today will continue to follow the previous payout and requirement model.
Success Stories and Recent Developments
Since the program’s launch last year, some creators have reached TikTok’s maximum payouts of $14,000 per effect and $50,000 per month, showcasing the potential for creators to earn significant income through the platform.
This announcement comes on the heels of TikTok’s recent update regarding its revamped creator fund, which has increased total creator revenue by over 250% within the last six months. The fund, which replaced TikTok’s original $1 billion Creator Fund, is set to exit beta in the coming weeks.
