Discord Unveils Embedded App SDK for Developers
Bringing New Games and Apps to the Platform
In an exciting move, Discord is set to empower developers with the ability to create innovative games and applications that seamlessly integrate into its chat platform. Starting from March 18th, the Embedded App SDK will be accessible to all Discord developers, enabling them to craft these unique embedded apps. For the past few months, Discord users have enjoyed a curated selection of minigames and apps through the Activities feature. This has included integrations with platforms like YouTube, engaging minigames such as poker, and collaborative experiences like a shared whiteboard. However, these apps have been restricted to a limited group of developers until now.Developers will soon have the power to create a wide array of minigames and apps within Discord.Image: Discord
“Plenty of Discord Developers out there have had their eyes on Activities, wondering when they could create their own. Starting March 18th, Discord Developers will be able to build new games and experiences that can be played directly on the platform with our new Embedded App SDK.”
Fostering Developer Growth and Discovery
With the introduction of the SDK, the Activities section of Discord will witness a significant influx of minigames that users can enjoy directly within their chat conversations. Discord’s vision is to evolve into a comprehensive platform for developers, facilitating building, sharing, distribution, discovery, and monetization of their creations. In addition to the SDK, Discord is exploring a feature that allows users to attach apps to their accounts, enabling them to carry these apps across different servers. Developers will have the option to enable this functionality for their apps, and the experiment is set to launch alongside the app SDK on March 18th.Discord is testing a new feature that lets apps travel with users across servers and accounts.Image: Discord
