STEM Students Boycott Google and Amazon Over Project Nimbus
Massive Pledge Against Tech Giants
Over 1,100 STEM students and young professionals from more than 120 universities have pledged to avoid job opportunities at Google and Amazon. This decision stems from the companies’ involvement in Project Nimbus.
Organized by No Tech for Apartheid
The pledge was spearheaded by No Tech for Apartheid (NOTA), a coalition of tech workers and activists from MPower Change and Jewish Voice for Peace. Since 2021, NOTA has been urging Google and Amazon to cease their participation in Project Nimbus and other projects for the Israeli government.
Concerns Over Israeli Surveillance
“Palestinians are already harmed by Israeli surveillance and violence,”
Despite claims that Project Nimbus is “not directed” at classified or military work, various document leaks have tied the contract to work for Israel’s military. Google and Amazon did not immediately respond to The Zero Byte’s request for comment.
