Hyundai’s First US-Built EV: The Ioniq 5
Introduction
Hyundai is set to launch its first electric vehicle (EV) built in the United States, the Ioniq 5. This move aims to make the Ioniq 5 eligible for tax credits, enhancing its appeal to American consumers.
Charging Standard Uncertainty
One key question remains: Will the initial Ioniq 5 models use the North American Charging Standard (NACS)? This standard has rapidly gained traction in the EV market.
It’s not clear if all of them will use Tesla’s NACS charging standard, however.
Production Timeline
Hyundai plans to start production in the fourth quarter of 2024. From this period onward, all new or refreshed EVs from Hyundai will be produced in the US.
