DoorDash’s Tipping Hurdles: Navigating the New Process
Recently, I placed a substantial dinner order through DoorDash for myself and a group of friends. While there was no option to include a gratuity during the ordering process, I remained unconcerned, as DoorDash provided assurance that tipping would be possible after the order was placed or delivered.
This marked my first experience with the service since the previous November, during which time DoorDash implemented significant changes. In response to a New York City law ensuring a minimum wage for delivery drivers, the company introduced a new system that allows restaurants to utilize their own websites for order processing. Although DoorDash’s involvement may not always be apparent, delivery drivers risk missing out on tips if obstacles arise in adding gratuity. Consider the official guide for more information.
DoorDash’s Stance on Tipping
“We know tips are still an important way for consumers to show Dashers their appreciation, so consumers will still be able to tip after checkout and for up to 30 days after they order,” the company wrote in its announcement about the tipping changes.
Indeed, DoorDash maintains that there is still a method to add a tip to your order. However, the company will require you to navigate through a series of steps to accomplish this.

Seriously? Forcing everything digital, even generosity, feels a bit cold.
Looks like DoorDash is making sure they get a cut of everything, including kindness!
