X, Formerly Twitter, Set to Launch Dedicated TV App for Video Content
New App toā¤ Featureā¢ Trending Videos and AI-Powered Topics
X, the social media platform previously known as Twitter, is gearing up to āintroduce a standalone TV app that will āshowcase videos uploaded to the site. CEO Linda Yaccarino ā¤took ā¢to theā£ platform to share āthe news, stating:
The new app will bring “real-time, engaging content āto yourā¢ smartā TVs.”
The āapp’s user interface bears a striking resemblance to that of YouTube,ā¤ as evidenced by a preview videoā¢ shared by ā¤Yaccarino. Key featuresā¤ of the app include a trending video algorithm designed to keep users informed with personalized popular content and AI-powered topics that categorize videos by āsubject matter. āAdditionally, the app will support seamlessā¤ cross-device viewing, allowing users to start watching a video on their mobile device and continue viewing it on their television.
Availability andā¢ Launch Date
While an exact launchā date has ānotā£ been specified, Yaccarino assures that the app will be availableā¤ “soon”ā£ and will be compatible with “most smart TVs.” The introduction of ā¤this app aligns with Yaccarino’s vision to transform theā social media platform into a free-speech,ā¢ “video first” destination.
Original Shows and Canceled Deals
X currently hosts original shows, including oneā¤ hosted by former congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard and another by former Foxā¢ Sports host āJim Rome. However, last month, Elon Musk canceled a talkā¢ show deal with former CNN anchor Don Lemon after he was interviewed for the āshow’sā inaugural episode.
Competition in āthe Live TV Streaming Space
The announcement ofā X’s dedicated TV app comes just a week after Truth Social, the socialā¤ media platform owned by Donald Trump’s media company, revealed its plans to launch a live TV āstreaming platform. Truth Social’s platform will prioritize “news networks,” ā¢”religious channels,” and content that has ā¤been “canceled” or “suppressed” on other platforms.
As X ventures into the realm of dedicated video content delivery, it remains to be seen howā¤ the app will fare in an increasingly competitive live TVā¢ streaming landscape.
