RESILIO: Pioneering Smart, Climate-Adaptive Rooftops
The Resilience Network of Smart Innovative Climate-Adapative Rooftops, or RESILIO, is a groundbreaking project that has transformed over 100,000 square feet of rooftops in Amsterdam. Notably, 86,000 square feet of this coverage is on social housing complexes, demonstrating the city’s commitment to making sustainable solutions accessible to all residents. The project’s success has inspired a citywide expansion, with blue-green roof coverage now estimated to exceed 500,000 square feet and growing.
Combating Urban Challenges with Nature-Based Solutions
As cities around the world grapple with the challenges posed by urbanization and climate change, blue-green roofs offer a multifaceted solution. By capturing and retaining rainwater, these specially designed roofs help mitigate the risk of flooding during heavy rainfall events.
