YouTube Introduces Members Only Shorts for Exclusive Content
Enhancing Membership Perks with Short-Form Videos
YouTube is rolling out a new feature called Members Only Shorts, which allows creators to share exclusive short-form videos with their paying subscribers. This addition complements existing membership benefits such as custom emojis, badges, livestreams, and more. By offering exclusive content, YouTube aims to incentivize viewers to sign up for paid memberships.
Versatile Use Cases for Members Only Shorts
Creators can leverage Members Only Shorts for various purposes, including:
- Sharing special announcements
- Promoting product drops or limited-time deals
- Conducting Q&A sessions
- Providing behind-the-scenes glimpses
- Showcasing snippets of upcoming content
TikTok’s Expansion of Subscription Offering
The introduction of Members Only Shorts comes on the heels of TikTok’s recent expansion of its subscription offering. TikTok’s “Subscription” feature, formerly known as LIVE Subscription, will soon be available to non-LIVE creators, enabling them to post exclusive videos accessible only to paying subscribers.
Flexibility in Content Visibility
When uploading a Short, creators can choose to make it members-only by selecting the “members only” option under the “visibility” section. They can also convert existing Shorts to members-only content. Additionally, creators have the flexibility to schedule a Short to transition from members-only to public, giving subscribers early access before it becomes available to everyone.
Fostering Intimacy with Casual Content
YouTube encourages creators to keep Members Only Shorts casual and organic, differentiating them from their public content. This approach aims to create a more intimate and exclusive experience for subscribers, making them feel closer to the creator’s life and activities.
Identifying Members-Only Content
Subscribers can easily identify Members Only Shorts through a star icon displayed alongside the content. These exclusive videos will be visible in the Shorts tab, Subscriptions feed, and on the creator’s channel.
YouTube Shorts’ Impressive Reach and Monetization
YouTube recently announced that Shorts garners over 70 billion daily views, and more than 25% of channels in the YouTube Partner Program monetize their videos through revenue-sharing on Shorts. These statistics underscore the growing popularity and financial potential of short-form content on the platform.
