Revolutionizing Online Shopping with Cherry’s AI-Powered Image Search
Cherry, a startup founded by Ryan Kim, is set to transform the online shopping experience with its innovative AI assistant. The app allows users to discover products across the internet using just a screenshot or image, making it easier to find items they come across while scrolling through social media or in real life.
The Inspiration Behind Cherry
Kim, a software engineer with extensive experience in the e-commerce ecosystem, was motivated to create Cherry due to his personal frustration with the time-consuming process of finding and comparing products online. He wanted to develop a tool that simplifies product discovery and comparison, making it more efficient for users to find what they’re looking for.
How Cherry Works
Imagine you’re at a physical store and find a handbag you like but think it’s too expensive. With Cherry, you can take a picture of it and find similar options online for a more affordable price. Or, if you’re scrolling through Instagram and see a gadget that catches your eye, you can take a screenshot and easily locate it using Cherry.
Cherry’s AI technology leverages the capabilities of both Google and Bing (powered by OpenAI) to scrape data directly on the user’s device.
What Sets Cherry Apart
While services like Google Lens offer general image-based search capabilities, Cherry distinguishes itself by providing features tailored specifically for the shopping experience. Users can sort results by price, bookmark products, and review their image search history to revisit items of interest. Additionally, Cherry allows users to share their search results with friends or on social media.
“While Google Lens offers general image-based search capabilities, Cherry is specifically tailored for the shopping experience,” Kim said. “Our app provides results with the same speed and accuracy as Google, but we’re expanding our reach by incorporating additional lenses, currently including Bing Visual Search, to offer a wider range of search results.”
Future Plans and Growth
Currently, Cherry has around 5,000 users and is targeting young consumers by helping them find the best products that meet their needs and budgets. The startup is focused on expanding its user base, integrating with online retailers, and introducing personalized shopping recommendations to “cherry-pick” the best products for its users. Cherry is also exploring partnerships with brands for exclusive deals and promotions.
