Threads Joins the Fediverse: Meta Launches Beta Experience for Users 18 and Up
In a significant move, Meta has announced that its popular app, Threads, is now part of the fediverse. The beta experience, which allows users to share their Threads accounts across the fediverse, is currently available to those aged 18 and above with public profiles in the United States, Canada, and Japan.
Threads has officially entered the fediverse.
The company had previously revealed its plans to test the feature on Mastodon and other networks that support the ActivityPub protocol back in December.
How to Enable Fediverse Sharing on Threads
To participate in the fediverse beta experience on Threads, users can follow these simple steps:
- Go to account settings within the Threads app.
- Enable the “Fediverse sharing” option.
Once this feature is turned on, users from other servers, such as Mastodon, will be able to discover your Threads profile and engage with your posts by liking and sharing them across various audiences.
Meta’s Demonstration at FediForum Conference
During the recent FediForum conference, Meta’s Peter Cottle provided a live demonstration of the fediverse integration, showcasing its functionality and potential benefits for users.
With this new development, Threads aims to expand its reach and foster greater connectivity among users across different platforms within the fediverse ecosystem.
