Vindictus: Defying Fate – A Thrilling Action RPG Worth Trying for Free
As someone who enjoys a diverse range of video games, I’ve always had a blind spot when it comes to Korean MMOs like Vindictus from Nexon. Despite its popularity in Asia, the game hasn’t made as much of an impact in the U.S. However, my lack of familiarity with the genre didn’t hinder my enjoyment of the playtest for Vindictus: Defying Fate.
A Fresh Take on the Franchise
Instead of being another massive MMO, Vindictus: Defying Fate is a challenging Soulslike action RPG. It’s always exciting to see game studios diversify their popular franchises to cater to different types of players, and I believe Defying Fate has the potential to make Vindictus more appealing to Western gamers who may not be aware of it. With its fluid combat and stunning visuals, this action game is definitely one to keep an eye on and experience for free during its playtest, which is currently available on Steam.
Engaging Gameplay for All
The Vindictus: Defying Fate playtest focuses more on gameplay than story, offering two playable characters: Fiona, who wields a longsword and shield, and Lann, a character from Vindictus who dual-wields swords and can swiftly dash around during combat. Enemies are tough, and mastering the art of dodging and blocking attacks at crucial moments is just as important as attacking. While Soulslike games can be hit-or-miss for me, I found my rhythm with Vindictus: Defying Fate because it feels more like action games such as Devil May Cry and Soulstice than Dark Souls. It utilizes controller buttons for combat instead of triggers and boasts deep skill and combo systems that provide each character with a wide range of options in battle. Despite its difficulty, especially during boss fights, attacking feels much more thrilling moment-to-moment compared to most Soulslikes.
Unique Enemies and Stunning Visuals
Although I’m not familiar with the narrative of Vindictus, I appreciated the unique enemies in the demo – a lycanthropic warrior race that ruth
