Decoding the Mystery: Signs You May Have Been Blocked on WhatsApp
WhatsApp, the globally beloved messaging app, connects billions of users daily. However, not all interactions on the platform are positive, and the blocking feature exists to help users avoid unwanted messages. If you suspect someone has blocked you on WhatsApp, there are a few telltale signs to look out for, even though the app doesn’t explicitly notify you of the block.
1. Stagnant Profile Picture and Status
When someone blocks you on WhatsApp, their profile picture and status will no longer update for you. This sign is more reliable if the person frequently updates their profile or status. To confirm, you can ask a mutual contact if they see any changes in the suspected blocker’s profile.
2. Vanishing “Last Seen” Timestamp
WhatsApp’s “last seen” feature shows when a user was last active. If this information disappears, it could indicate that you’ve been blocked. However, users can also disable this feature, so its absence doesn’t always mean you’ve been blocked.
3. Undelivered Messages and Failed Calls
When you send a message on WhatsApp, ticks indicate the delivery status: one tick for sent, two for received, and two blue ticks for read. If you’re blocked, your message will never progress past the first stage, and calls will automatically fail. However, this can also happen if the recipient’s phone is off or not connected to the internet.
4. Inability to Add Them to a Group Chat
If you’re blocked, you won’t be able to add the person to a new group chat. Existing group chats will function normally, but attempting to add a blocker to a new chat will result in an error message. This is probably the most definitive indicator of a block, especially when combined with other potential signs.
While people can restrict who can add them to groups in general, if you have someone in your contacts, you should typically be able to add them to a group chat unless they have specifically blocked you from doing so.
However, attempting to add someone to a new group solely to test if they’ve blocked you can be an awkward situation if they haven’t actually blocked you. Randomly adding someone to a group with no context or reason may prompt uncomfortable questions from them about your motivations.

Oh, figuring that out might just reveal who’s not so keen on chatting anymore!
