Boosting Discoverability and Immediate Listening

When audiobook enthusiasts visit a Countdown Page to pre-save a title, they’ll also find a “More Like This” section. This tab showcases similar books that are already available for immediate listening, much like a librarian recommending related titles to a reader. By promoting discoverability and instant access, Spotify aims to encourage further exploration and adoption of audiobooks on its platform.

Since then, more than 80% of people using the pre-save feature would stream the new release within the first week, on average.

Spotify has revealed that millions of users have already embraced its audiobook offerings, listening to over 150,000 titles from a catalog of more than 200,000 books. By leveraging its massive global user base of over 600 million listeners, the company seeks to further expand the reach and popularity of its audiobook service through the introduction of Countdown Pages.

In a move to sweeten the deal for its Premium subscribers, Spotify began including audiobooks as part of the subscription package in late 2022. The feature initially launched in the U.K. and Australia, followed by rollouts in the U.S., Canada, and other markets. Premium users can enjoy 15 hours of audiobook listening per month at no additional cost.

For those who prefer a more focused audiobook experience, Spotify now offers a standalone audiobook subscription for its free users. Priced at $9.99 per month, this option provides unlimited access to Spotify’s extensive audiobook library without the need for a Premium music subscription.
