US Accuses Russian Smuggling Network Member of Using AirTags for Stalking
Allegations of Stalking Using AirTags
The United States has accused a suspected member of a Russian smuggling network of using Apple AirTags to stalk his ex-wife. Concerns have been raised that abusive partners could exploit internet-connected devices, such as vehicles, to track their significant others or exes.
Details of the Incident
In this particular case, the accused, Numanovich, allegedly placed seven AirTags on a car used by his ex-wife, S.K., between March and April of this year. These AirTags were hidden in various parts of the car, including inside the side mirror casing and under the front bumper.
FBI’s Involvement
The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) utilized the AirTags to monitor Numanovich’s activities, observing when he would place or check the devices. The government stated that records from Apple linked Numanovich to one of the AirTags.
Search Warrant and Further Findings
Following his indictment, law enforcement executed a search warrant and reportedly found a folder on Numanovich’s phone containing approximately 140 sexually explicit photographs and videos of his ex-wife. He allegedly threatened to release these materials if she did not comply with his demands.
Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

So much for the AirTags just being little lost-and-found helpers!
