Microsoft Unveils Copilot+ PCs: AI-Enhanced Laptops and Tablets
Introduction to Copilot+ PCs
Microsoft has introduced a groundbreaking category of laptops and tablets known as Copilot+ PCs, which integrate artificial intelligence at their core. This new lineup will be available from various manufacturers, including Microsoft, starting this summer.
Keynote Announcement at Build Conference
During its annual Build developer conference, Microsoft dedicated its keynote to AI advancements, unveiling the new Copilot+ PCs. These devices will feature built-in AI capabilities and include Microsoft’s own 2024 Surface Pro and Surface Laptop models, as well as offerings from other major brands.
Participating Manufacturers
Several well-known manufacturers will release Copilot+ PCs, including:
- Acer: Swift 14 AI
- Asus
- Dell
- HP
- Lenovo
- Samsung
These devices will come in various configurations and will be available from mid-June, with prices starting around £1,000 / $1,000. For instance, the Acer Swift 14 AI will be priced at £1,199.

Qualcomm Snapdragon X Series Chipsets
A notable feature of Copilot+ PCs is their use of Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon X Series chipsets, specifically the Snapdragon X Elite and Snapdragon X Plus. The Snapdragon X Elite CPU boasts 8 high-performance cores and 4 efficiency-optimized cores, designed for speed and efficient power usage. Additionally, a dedicated Neural Processing Unit (NPU) accelerates AI processes.
New AI and Copilot Experiences
Microsoft has also announced new AI and Copilot experiences for these upcoming PCs:
- Recall: This feature allows users to quickly and visually find past activities on their PC, such as visiting websites or opening documents. It provides a timeline of snapshots for easy navigation.
- Cocreator: This tool generates detailed AI images from simple sketches made in Paint.
Third-Party App Integration
Third-party applications will benefit from the new NPU for enhanced AI processing. Examples include:
- Adobe Photoshop: Utilizing Firefly systems for advanced image editing.
- Algoriddim’s djay Pro: Leveraging AI to assist in mixing music tracks.
Availability and Pre-Orders
Microsoft has announced that many Copilot+ PCs are available for pre-order now, with shipping set to begin on June 18, 2024.
