The company confirmed to The Zero Byte that it is conducting a worldwide experiment, enabling individuals to share their Instagram images directly to Threads with a simple toggle.
Opt-In Experience with Customizable Settings
Meta emphasized that this cross-posting functionality is entirely optional, and users have the flexibility to turn it off at any point. When an Instagram post is shared on Threads, the caption becomes the text for the Thread post, while hashtags are converted into plain text. However, it’s important to note that Reels cannot be automatically posted to Threads at this time.
Leveraging Meta’s Ecosystem for Threads Promotion
To drive growth and engagement on Threads, Meta has been actively utilizing its other platforms, such as Facebook and Instagram. Last year, the company introduced a carousel of suggested Threads posts on both Instagram and Facebook. Additionally, Meta recently began testing cross-posting capabilities from Facebook to Threads earlier this year.
Creator Bonus Program and Milestone Achievement
Alongside the cross-posting experiment, Meta is also running a creator bonus program on Threads to incentivize accounts with substantial follower counts to actively post on the platform. During the Q1 2024 earnings call, CEO Mark Zuckerberg proudly announced that Threads had surpassed the impressive milestone of 150 million monthly active users.
Given Instagram’s shift to promoting video, Threads might be a good place to promote your photography.
As Meta continues to innovate and enhance the user experience on Threads, the integration with Instagram and the introduction of cross-posting functionality demonstrate the company’s commitment to fostering a thriving and interconnected social media ecosystem.
