Hades II Unleashes Early Access on Steam and Epic Games Store
Supergiant Games has opened the gates to the underworld ahead of schedule, as Hades II, the follow-up to their acclaimed roguelike, is now available for purchase at $30 on PC via Early Access on both Steam and the Epic Games Store.
Melinoë’s Quest to Defeat Chronos
In Hades II, players take on the role of Melinoë, the underworld princess and sister to Zagreus, the protagonist of the first game. Melinoë embarks on a mission to vanquish the titan Chronos, aided by a diverse cast of Greek deities, including Aphrodite and Zeus, who provide her with power-ups and unique abilities throughout her journey. While the currently released version is not the complete game, Supergiant ensures that players who purchase it will have their progress carried over to the final release. The development process is expected to continue “at least through the end of 2024,” with periodic updates being released every few months.
Continuing the Legacy of Alluring Gods and Inclusive Romance
The original Hades garnered praise not only for its exceptional gameplay but also for its captivating gods and inclusive romantic options. Players had the opportunity to pursue relationships with both female and male characters, even engaging in a threesome if they played their cards right. The sequel maintains this tradition, featuring an array of stunning Greek gods whose beauty is on full display.
Early Access: A Familiar Approach
The early release of Hades II should come as no surprise to fans of the series. Its predecessor, Hades, was initially released in an unfinished state in late 2018, with the completed version arriving in 2020. Supergiant explained their approach, stating, “We designed the original Hades for Early Access from the ground up, and the same is true for Hades II, our first-ever sequel. We believe everything about this game benefits from ongoing feedback, from the balancing to the storytelling.”
Expanded Content and Ongoing Development
According to Supergiant, the current version of Hades II boasts more levels, enemies, and voiced characters than even the finished version of the original game. However, crucial elements such as key areas, characters, story, and more are still under development. The Early Access release follows a technical test conducted by Supergiant last month, during which team members played the game live on stream, and interested players were given the opportunity to sign up for the test. Hades II has already been in development for three years, and while there is no official release date for the final product, players who wish to contribute to its development can do so by providing feedback.
“The combination of our impressions as a development team, feedback we’re hearing from our player community, and gameplay data we’re collecting from players all should help us form a more complete picture of how we can make Hades II the best it can be.”
