Snapchat Introduces AI-Powered Features to Enhance User Experience
On Wednesday, Snapchat unveiled a suite of new features aimed at improving user engagement and productivity within the app. The social media platform is introducing AI-powered reminders, editable chats, custom Bitmoji outfits, map reactions, and emoji reactions.
Set Reminders with My AI Chatbot
Snapchat users can now set reminders directly within the app using the My AI chatbot. Instead of relying on their device’s default clock app, users can ask the chatbot to create reminders for specific tasks or events, either in the AI’s chat window or while chatting with a friend. This feature allows users to set reminders for completing assignments or counting down to a special occasion, such as a romantic evening out.
Editable Chats for Snapchat+ Subscribers
Snapchat is also introducing editable chats, initially available to Snapchat+ subscribers. This feature allows users to modify their messages for up to five minutes after sending them. The company plans to roll out this functionality to all users in the future.
Design Your Own Bitmoji Outfits with AI
Users will soon have the ability to create custom digital garments for their Bitmoji using generative AI. By typing prompts like “vibrant graffiti” or “skull flower,” users can generate unique patterns for their Bitmoji’s clothing, such as sweaters. The app will generate a pattern based on the prompt, which users can further customize by zooming in or out. Once satisfied with the design, users can apply it to their Bitmoji or save it for later use.
React to Friends’ Locations on the Map
Snapchat users who have opted to share their location with friends can now quickly react to their map locations. For example, if you see a friend on your morning commute, you can send them a wave. Alternatively, if you notice a friend has arrived home safely after a get-together, you can send them a heart.
Express Yourself with Emoji Reactions in Chats
In addition to reacting to messages with Bitmoji, Snapchat users can now use emoji reactions in chats. This feature, popular on platforms like Instagram and Messenger, allows users to quickly respond to messages using emojis.
The introduction of these new features follows Snapchat’s impressive Q1 2024 results, which saw the platform reach 422 million daily active users, a 10% year-over-year increase. The company also reported that the number of Snapchat+ subscribers more than tripled year-over-year, surpassing 9 million subscribers.
