Bumble Unveils New Features and Redesign Ahead of App Relaunch
Opening Move: Empowering Women to Take Control
In a bid to give women even more control over their dating experience, Bumble has introduced “Opening Move,” a feature that allows women to prewrite an opening line for quick and easy messaging. Users can either craft a custom message or choose from Bumble’s pre-composed questions, such as “What caught your eye in my profile?” or “Which book or movie has had a significant impact on your perspective?” This feature not only alleviates messaging anxiety but also enables users to send dealbreaker questions to filter out incompatible matches.
We recognize that it can sometimes be burdensome to start a chat every single time, so we wanted to listen to our members in that respect, help them find more ways to make that first move feel a little easier.
Dara Alsulayman, a senior product manager at Bumble, revealed that the company plans to add support for dynamic Opening Moves, allowing users to create multiple, different types of conversation starters.
Expanded Intentions and Interests for Better Matchmaking
Bumble has expanded its “Intentions” badges, an advanced filter option for premium members, to help refine the dating search. Users can now choose between more specific intentions, such as “fun, casual dates,” “intimacy without commitment,” “life partner,” and “ethical non-monogamy.” Additionally, users can display two intentions on their profile.
The app has also launched a new Interests section, allowing users to showcase three causes and communities they support, such as feminism, environmentalism, and LGBTQ+ rights.
Personality-Driven Prompts and Profile Enhancements
To help daters showcase their personalities, Bumble has introduced hundreds of new prompts for users, along with new categories to help users find relevant prompts. The “About Me” category, for example, offers prompts like “I’m known for,” “I’m a real nerd about,” and “My humble brag is.”
Bumble now requires new users to add four pictures to their profiles, up from the previous requirement of two. Alsulayman noted that users with more photos are more successful at finding connections, addressing a common complaint among dissatisfied members.
A Fresh Look for Bumble’s Tenth Anniversary
As Bumble approaches its tenth anniversary, the company has unveiled a new logo and refreshed app design, featuring bold fonts and a more modern feel. Alsulayman stated that the new design aligns with user preferences and requests.
Adapting to Changing Dating Trends
With dating app fatigue becoming more prevalent, especially among Gen Z users who are tired of swiping culture, Bumble’s recent update demonstrates the company’s efforts to appeal to younger users. In the second quarter of 2024, Bumble plans to relaunch its app, introducing new AI-powered features and other improvements, such as potentially allowing men to send the first message.
