Indaband: The Social Media App Connecting Musicians Worldwide
Imagine being able to collaborate with musicians from all corners of the globe, right from the comfort of your own home. That’s exactly what Indaband, a new social media app, is making possible. With just a smartphone and a pair of headphones, you can record yourself playing an instrument and have others add their own musical flair on top of your original track.
How Indaband Works
Getting started on Indaband is simple. You can either upload pre-recorded files as new tracks or use the app’s built-in recording booth to record your own tracks on top of someone else’s. The app’s multi-track video studio allows you to record and mix unlimited video tracks in different sessions, which you can then share with the Indaband community. Whenever someone collaborates with one of your tracks, you’ll receive a notification, allowing you to see how they’ve put their own spin on your content.
The Birth of Indaband
Indaband is the brainchild of CEO Daniel Murta, CTO Andrews Medina, Head of Engineering Helielson Santos, and Design Leader Emerson Farias. The idea for the app came about when the co-founders, who were working together at a legal technology company called Jusbrasil, found themselves unable to play music together during happy hours due to the pandemic. They spent their weekends developing Indaband and eventually left Jusbrasil to focus on the app full-time.
As Murta explained to The Zero Byte:
“Music creation is very hard and involves complex software. So, the whole idea was to redesign this process from scratch and make it simple and out of your smartphone. The idea was that we would unlock musical expression to a different level to make it simple to collaborate and co-create music.”
Discovering and Engaging with Music on Indaband
Indaband helps users discover new songs and jam sessions through daily curated playlists that explore various genres, such as rock, jazz, hip-hop, and EDM. Users can engage with videos by liking, commenting, and reposting them to their followers.
Future Features and Target Audience
The app plans to introduce a feature called “Circles,” which will allow users to create their own communities within the app and potentially host live events. Indaband may also develop a feature similar to Patreon, enabling established creators to offer paid content, such as virtual lessons on their mastered instruments.
While Indaband’s early adopters are primarily skilled musicians comfortable with sharing their music and recording themselves, the app eventually aims to cater to beginners as well. As Murta stated:
“We want to be known as a place where the musical community flourishes. There is no place for musical communities right now. So the idea is to be known for that, and our strategy is to make it easy to create, and allow everyone to join the creation process.”
Funding and Availability
In late 2021, Indaband raised $7 million in seed funding from various angel investors, including Instagram co-founder Mike Kreiger and former Megadeth guitar player Kiko Loureiro, as well as several Latin American VC firms, such as Monashees, Astella, and Upload Ventures.
