Amazon Music Introduces AI-Generated Playlists with Maestro
In the wake of Spotify’s recent foray into AI-poweredā playlists, Amazon has unveiled its own take on the concept with Maestro,⢠anā AI playlist generator now āavailable for testing by U.S. ā¤customers on both iOS and Android devices within the Amazon āMusic app.
Creating Personalized Playlists with Prompts and Emojis
Maestro allows users to⣠generate custom playlists by entering spoken⣠or written prompts, which can include activities, sounds, emotions, and even emojis. Forā those struggling⣠to come āup with ideas, the āapp offers a selection of suggested prompts at the bottom⤠of theā screen. Within seconds of⤠submitting āa⣠prompt, Maestro generates a playlist tailored to the user’s input.

Beta Launch āand⢠Availability
As Maestro is currently in beta, Amazon acknowledges that the AI technology powering the āfeature may not always deliver⣠perfect results on the āfirst⤠attempt. āThe company has implemented safeguardsā to prevent the use of offensive language and inappropriate prompts, although it’s likely that some users will attempt to ācircumvent these barriers over time.
Unlike Spotify’s AI generator, which is being tested in the U.K.ā and āAustralia,ā Maestro is initially available to a subset of free Amazon Music users, Prime ācustomers, and Unlimited Amazon⢠Music subscribers on āiOS and⤠Android⤠devices in the U.S.
Premium āFeatures⣠for Subscribers
While all users can access Maestro,⤠subscribers to Amazon Music Unlimited will enjoy additional features, such as the ability toā listen to playlists instantly and save them for later. In contrast, Prime members andā ad-supported users will only have access to 30-second previews of theā songs before āsaving the playlists. This differentiation in ā£features may encourage more users to upgrade to the ā¤paid subscription if they find ā£the AI ā¤functionality appealing, aligningā with the growing trend of offering premium AI experiences as ā£paid services, as seen with ā ChatGPT Plus and Google’s potential plans to charge ā¢for AI āfeatures in search results.

Accessing and Sharing Maestro ā¢Playlists
To āuse Maestro, users ā£must have the latest version of the Amazon Music mobile app. The option to create an AI-generated playlist can be found on the home screen or by tapping the⤠plus sign toā create a new playlist. Users can thenā input their playlist prompt by ā¢speaking or typing, and tap “Let’s go!” to begin ā¢streaming. Created playlists can be saved and shared ā¤with friends.
Some of āthe playful prompt suggestions from Amazon include “š and eating š,”ā “Make my š¶ a genius,” “Myspace era hip-hop,” “šļøšµš¤ ,” “Music my grandparents made out to,” “š¤šæš§¼”, and “I tracked my friends and they’re all hanging out without me.”
While no specific timeline has been provided, Amazon has stated that the Maestro beta will gradually expand ā¤to include more customers⤠over time.
