Messenger βIntroduces Shared Albums,β€ HD Photo Sharing, and Large File Transfers
Meta has unveiled a suite of new featuresβ for Messenger, aimed at enhancing the user experience and catering to those who frequently create shared albumsβ’ or exchange high-resolution imagesβ’ through platforms likeβ€ Google Drive.β The updates include the ability β£to create shared albums within chats, send photos in high definition, andβ€ share files up to 100MB in size.
Organizing Memories with Shared Albums
Messenger users βcanβ€ now create albums of photos and videos within group chats, providing a convenient way to organizeβ€ and showcaseβ memories from events such asβ£ vacations or milestoneβ£ celebrations. To create anβ€ album, users can select multiple photos from the chat composer and tap “create album,” or long-press a photo in the chat. Adding photosβ€ to existing albums is as simpleβ£ as tapping the “Add to βalbum”β option.
All participants in a chatβ£ have the ability to view, add, delete, and download the contents of an album, which can be accessed by tapping the “Media” buttonβ within the chat. This feature βsets Messenger apart from Meta’s other messaging platforms, WhatsApp and Instagram DMs, which β£currently do not offer shared album functionality.

Elevating Visual Quality with βHD Photo Sharing
Messengerβ€ usersβ’ can βnow share images in high definition by toggling the new “HD” option after selecting β£a photo from the chat composer. Multiple photos can be sent in βHD by tapping on additional images. Thisβ£ update βfollows Meta’s introduction of HD photo support βon WhatsApp in βSeptember 2023.
Streamlining File Sharing with Large βFile Transfers
As an alternative to email,β’ Messenger now allows β’users to send Word, PDF, Excel, and zipβ files directly within chats. This can be done by tapping the + button βin a chat and βselecting the desired file from the user’s device.
Connecting Made Easy with QR Codes
Messengerβ€ has also introduced β’a new option for users to connect with others β’by scanning a QR code, eliminating the need to manually input someone’s βname or number to initiate a conversation on the app.
The launch of shared albums is likely to be a welcome βaddition for users, as the capability isn’t β€available on Meta’s otherβ messaging services, WhatsApp and Instagram DMs.
With βthese updates, Messenger continues to βevolve and adaptβ£ to the needs of its users, β£offering a more comprehensive and user-friendly messaging experience.
