Spotify’s Listening Party Feature: Connecting Fans and Artists Through Live Audio
Spotify has been experimenting with a new feature called “Listening Party” that aims to foster a deeper connection between fans and artists. Although the company’s standalone live audio app, Spotify Live, has been discontinued, the technology behind it is being repurposed to create unique experiences for music enthusiasts.
What is a Listening Party?
A Listening Party is an event hosted by an artist on Spotify, typically coinciding with the release of a new album. During these events, top fans of the artist are invited to join a live audio session where they can listen to the latest tracks alongside other dedicated followers. Spotify Premium users can also participate in these events by accessing the listing under the artist’s profile events section.
“It’s still in its early stages but we’ve had a few artists test over the last few months including Zara Larsson and Bleachers,” A Spotify spokesperson said.
Interactive Features
The Listening Party feature incorporates real-time audio technology, allowing fans to request to go “on stage” during the session and interact directly with the artist. Additionally, a live chat room is available for participants to engage with each other throughout the event.
Spotify has also integrated its in-app Merch Hub with the Listening Party feature, enabling fans to purchase the latest merchandise from their favorite artists while streaming music together.
Combining Group Listening and Live Audio
The Listening Party feature builds upon Spotify’s existing Group Session feature, which allows friends to listen to songs together. By incorporating elements of live audio interactions, Spotify aims to create a more immersive and engaging experience for music lovers.
