ChromeOS M123 Update: Customizable Keyboard Shortcuts, Mouse Button Actions, and Enhanced Text-to-Speech
Google is introducing a slew of exciting features with the April update for ChromeOS users. The M123 update, which is currently being rolled out to users over the next few days, brings a host of improvements and customization options to enhance the user experience.
Tailor Your Keyboard Shortcuts
One of the standout features of this update is the ability to customize keyboard shortcuts according to your preferences. While this functionality has been available in other desktop operating systems, ChromeOS users will now have the flexibility to assign custom keyboard shortcuts to their frequently used actions.
To enable this feature, users will need to manually turn on a setting flag called “#enable-shortcut-customization”. However, Google has announced that the keyboard customization shortcut will be enabled by default in the upcoming ChromeOS update M124.
Customize Your Mouse Button Actions
In addition to keyboard shortcuts, the M123 update also allows users to customize mouse button actions. If you have a mouse with more than two buttons, you can now assign them to perform specific tasks such as taking a screenshot, muting or unmuting audio, and inserting emojis. Furthermore, you can set a dedicated key combination for an action that is already assigned to a keyboard shortcut.
Enhanced Text-to-Speech and Language Preferences
The ChromeOS M123 update also includes several smaller upgrades that improve the overall user experience. Users can now change their preferred languages for individual Android apps through “Settings > Apps > Manage your apps > App language”. This allows for greater flexibility in multilingual environments.
Additionally, the text-to-speech feature has been enhanced with a more natural-sounding voice. This improved voice supports 31 languages and can be used even when offline, making it more accessible and convenient for users.
The ChromeOS M123 update brings a range of customization options and enhancements to improve the user experience. With the ability to tailor keyboard shortcuts, mouse button actions, and language preferences, users can personalize their ChromeOS devices to suit their needs better. The improved text-to-speech feature also makes the operating system more accessible and user-friendly. As Google continues to refine and update ChromeOS, users can look forward to even more exciting features in the future.
