On Wednesday, Brave announced the launch of its AI assistant, Leo, for iPhone and iPad users. The AI-powered tool enables users to ask questions, create content, and summarize pages, among other features. The iOS release follows the introduction of the AI assistant on Android and desktop platforms.
Voice-to-Text Functionality
The iOS version of Leo introduces a unique voice-to-text capability, which is not available in its Android counterpart. This feature allows users to speak their queries or questions out loud, eliminating the need for typing. Brave believes that this additional functionality enhances the user experience and makes interacting with the AI more convenient.
Versatile AI Capabilities
Leo offers a wide range of features, including:
- Answering questions about the content it reads
- Generating extensive written reports
- Translating or rewriting pages
- Creating transcriptions of video or audio content
- Writing code

Language Model Options and Premium Upgrade
Leo incorporates access to various language models, such as Mixtral 8x7B, Anthropic’s Claude Instant, and Meta’s Llama 2 13B. While Mixtral 8x7B is set as the default language model for Leo, users have the flexibility to choose alternative models or upgrade to Leo Premium for higher rate limits at a monthly cost of $14.99.
Brave Joins the AI Assistant Trend
Brave is not the only browser company to introduce an AI assistant. In the previous year, Opera launched its own AI assistant called Aria, developed in collaboration with OpenAI. Aria features a chatbot-like interface that allows users to ask questions and receive instant responses.
Availability and Accessibility
Brave Leo for iOS is now accessible to all iOS users who have updated their browser to version 1.63. To use Leo, simply open the browser, start typing in the address bar, and select “Ask Leo.” It is important to note that Leo is an opt-in feature and can be disabled through the app’s settings.
