Google Introduces Personalized Shopping Recommendations with New Update
Google has announced a new update that simplifies the process of finding personalized shopping results for users. The feature, which is being rolled out to all U.S. shoppers using mobile browsers and the Google app, allows users to rate various products to receive tailored recommendations when shopping for clothing, footwear, and accessories.
How the New Feature Works
When searching for a specific item, such as “women’s sundresses,” users will now see a “style recommendations” section where they can provide feedback on options using a thumbs up or thumbs down rating system. Alternatively, users can utilize a swipe gesture, similar to that of dating app Tinder, to rate the products. If unsure about an item, users have the option to skip it. After rating a selection of products, Google will display personalized results for the user to browse through.
Refining and Managing Preferences
If the desired item has not been found, Google offers the opportunity to rate additional items and view even more results. The user’s preferences will be saved, ensuring that future searches for similar products will yield style recommendations based on their previous likes. In case of accidentally giving a thumbs up to an unwanted product or preferring not to see personalized shopping results, users can manage their preferences by accessing the three-dot menu next to a result and navigating to personalization options in the “About this result” panel.
Google’s Commitment to Enhancing the Shopping Experience
Google has revealed that over a billion shopping searches are conducted on its platform daily, with users exposed to more than 45 billion products in their results. The company is dedicated to providing the most up-to-date information, updating more than two billion listings every hour with the latest details on pricing, stock availability, and shipping.
As Google continues to compete with e-commerce giants like Amazon and Walmart, both of which have recently introduced AI-powered features to challenge Google’s shopping capabilities, this new update demonstrates the company’s commitment to enhancing the user experience and maintaining its position as a leader in the online shopping space.
