Epic Games Files Motion to Enforce Original Order Against Apple’s App Store Policies
Epic Games has taken a bold step by filing a motion requesting Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers to enforce her initial ruling, which mandated Apple to permit App Store developers to include links to external payment options.
Epic’s Stance on Apple’s Outside Payment Terms
According to Epic, the terms set by Apple for outside payments were not feasible, and the company expressed doubts about the court’s likelihood of approving the 27 percent fee imposed by Apple. In a statement, Epic Games asserted:
Apple’s outside payment terms were untenable and that it was “unlikely” that the court “ultimately blesses” the 27 percent fee.
The Ongoing Battle Between Epic and Apple
The motion filed by Epic Games is the latest development in the ongoing legal dispute between the two tech giants. The conflict began when Epic challenged Apple’s App Store policies, which led to the removal of the popular game Fortnite from the platform.
The court’s original order, which Epic is now seeking to enforce, aimed to create a more level playing field for app developers by allowing them to offer alternative payment methods outside of Apple’s ecosystem.
